In August, I created a series of iPhone apps for randomly selecting a movie or TV show to watch. I ended up creating 5 variations of the app, and you can read more about them.
Well, that was fun, and maybe a slight bit useful, but I wanted to try and make a tool I could use for a real problem.
For the first few years we lived here, and even for a while before that, I collected GPS tracks of all our travels. The problem is that I have most of them collected into one folder, but they’re pretty useless just sitting there.
I thought if I could create an app to help me catalog them and view them it might be useful.
With ChatGPT‘s help (I know what I want; it knows how to produce the corresponding code (usually)), I have a good working prototype that facilitates viewing GPS tracks.
Here are some iPad screen shots from the app. The captions pretty much outline what’s happening along the way, but essentially, the app allows one to choose a map type and then to load and view one or more GPS tracks.
I’ve got the app in Apple’s TestFlight program if anyone I know wants to give it a try; just let me know!
