Kanopolis Drive

Roaring dam spillways, bugs and sunflowers, cool twisty roads along the rough canyons, these are a few of my favorite things!

We took a pre-holiday drive out to Kanopolis Lake this afternoon. There was a bit of traffic on the way out, mid-afternoon, but by early evening when we we came home the road was full of folks heading out for one last weekend at the lake.

Our first stop was the spillway, where I got a couple of shots.

Next we headed over to Yankee Bluff. No good shots, but we saw a literal cloud of mayflies. Turns out they live as waterbugs for one to three years and then as adults for 1-3 days!

Took a few sunflower shots on the way back, and the series ends with some shots of one of my favorite roads, looking east on the road that heads to the west side of the lake.

  1. I so enjoy your travels and experiences. You photograph many people, places and things which evoke very special memories for folks who don’t get around as much as they used to. Thank you so much.
