At first I was very disappointed that the new version of iPhoto still imports all the photos it is to manage. To iTunes, import means copy all the images to be managed to a folder you cannot specify. At first I thought “that’s completely unacceptable”. Like iTunes, I thought iPhoto should have an option that allows the use of a pre-existing folder, one that already has images, and simply reference the images, not copy them.
So, back to the previously mentioned Iview Media Pro for general image management. And to think I had such high hopes for the new iPhoto.
Then I got to thinking … what did I want from iPhoto? The ability to manage photos and also the ability to create slideshows, etc. Since Media Pro isn’t nearly as good at creating slideshows as iPhoto (it’s as bad at slideshows as iPhoto is at general image management), the answer soon became clear.
Photos will be managed using Media Pro, thus gaining access to both the ICPT and EXIF info, plus many more management related features. iPhoto will import select photos that are to be shared via slideshows, etc. Not as good as having one tool for dealing with images, but, upon reflection I don’t have that today. I use Photoshop to edit, Iview to manage, and iPhoto to share; using the best tool for each task.

agree with your comments about iPhoto and iViewMedia Pro seems to do all i want as far as finding images.
One thing I still cant decide on, or even if its a problem is how to set up a file hierachy for file images/groups of images on hard drive/discs?

Any advice?
