We took a short trip to Arkansas in early June. Besides the usual sight-seeing, I took a short hike up to the Kings River Overlook.
It’s located less than an hour from Eureka Springs, with about 20 minutes of that on graveled forest service roads. I had some uncertainty about the exact route, but the directions provided by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were pretty accurate. Also, the route is well signed and the road is somewhat obvious, being a bit larger than the side roads.
The walk was just about 1/2 mile, with a slight climb. I crossed over at least 6 streams along the path, most small enough to cross with one large step.
The view from Kings River Overlook is stunning. Just magnificent. Beyond words, so enjoy the photos below. Oh, note one thing. I read many cautions about keeping a VERY CLOSE eye on children up here. It’s true. One misstep and you’re dead. It’s a straight down 100 foot plus drop. If the hike weren’t so far I’m sure the state would put up barriers at the edge; it’s that dangerous.
Accordingly, I moved around slowly and deliberately.
Anyway, no danger from enjoying these photos! And remember, you can click on any image to see a larger version.
