Thanks to Jeneane, I’ve added a new voice to my list of favorite female vocalists. Terra Naomi began her career 5 years ago, playing in clubs and touring small venues around the country. In 2006 she began posting musical videos on YouTube, and attracted a strong following. As a result, she has just recently released some of her songs on Apple’s iTunes music store. You can find out more about Terra Naomi by visiting her MySpace page or her official web site.
So far I’ve enjoyed a few of her videos including The Vicodin Song, Close to Your Head, Up Here and four versions of Say It’s Possible. Terra’s got an expressive voice, and on most songs provides her own accompaniment, playing piano or acoustic guitar.
My favorite song is the second (in terms of release date) version of Say It’s Possible. The original version of Say It’s Possible was released in June of 2006 and while I do like it, I may prefer Close to Your Head (do you hear the hints of Bowie?) compared to this version. Two new commercial versions of Say It’s Possible are available on iTunes; I like one of them, which is recorded with a simple acoustic guitar accompaniment. On the other version Terra Naomi is accompanied by a band and it just doesn’t work as well as the more simple arrangements.
And that leads to the second version of Say It’s Possible, released on New Year’s Eve, 2006. In Terra’s own words:
I asked people from around the world to film themselves answering the question “what would you do/want if anything were possible?” in three words or less. THANK YOU to all of you. This project is a true reflection of what we can do together.
The December 2006 version of Say It’s Possible visually blends a variety of responses Terra received after posting her question, and is also very well sung, making it my current favorite.
Here I go, breaking site validation to post a visual link to Terra Naomi’s YouTube video of Say It’s Possible:
The lyrics to Say It’s Possible are below the fold. Enjoy!
Say It’s Possible
by Terra Naomi
I see the lights are turning
and I look outside the stars are burning
through this changing time
it could have been anything we want
it’s fine salvation was just a passing thought.
Don’t wait act now
this amazing offer won’t last long
it’s only a chance to save the path we’re on
I know there are more exciting things to talk about
and in time we’ll sort it out
and though they say it’s possible to me
I don’t see how it’s probable
I see the course we’re on
spinning farther from what i know
I’ll hold on
tell me that you won’t let go
tell me that you won’t let go
And truth is such a funny thing
with all these people
keep on telling me
they know what’s best
and what to be frightened of
and all the rest are wrong
they know nothing about us
And though they say it’s possible to me
I don’t see how it’s probable
I see the course we’re on
spinning farther from what i know
I’ll hold on
tell me that you won’t let go
tell me that you won’t let go
I’m not alright…
This could be something beautiful
combine our love into something wonderful
but times are tough i know
and the pull of what we can’t give up takes hold
